Introduction of CrossWire Server
Digital Monsters were originally created by a group of teenage computer programmers in the late 1980s as an experiment into the development of artificial intelligence. When their project was shut down due to lack of funds, their primitive digital lifeforms accidentally found their way into what became the Digital World, where they began to grow and evolve. One of the programmers observed this, and wrote an algorithm that allowed the Digimon to evolve beyond their original specifications and truly become individual lifeforms. From there the Digital Monsters were adapted into a franchise known as "Digimon". The creatures and the world that they lived in were formed into games, manga, anime, toys, cards and so many other collectibles as it picked up funding and grew in popularity.
With each passing year the Digimon franchise took another step closer and closer to shorten the gap between the virtual world and the real world, using their technology and developing video games to help fans do their best to live out their fantasies as tamers with their own Digimon partners. Fantasies that were created by the merchandise of the franchise. Until at last in the year 2027 there was a huge and unintentional breakthrough on a project known as CrossWire Server. It was meant to be first virtual reality game in which individuals could enter the game environment and interact with it on a physical level by stimulating the nervous system and other parts of the brain. Through a fluke they had managed to actually tap into the Digital World, a structure the programmers had developed over years that they could only get a glimpse of through a screen in earlier years due to the limitations of technology. Now the boundaries were broken.
Immediately the Board of Directors started to call for beta testing and advertising of this new ground breaking video game experience. It was to be an experience like none other and with a control over such technology it meant big money. Despite the programmers warnings of how unsafe and unstable the virtual structure of the game could be, especially with the way Digimon were programmed to grow and develop with minds and personalities of their own, arrangements were still made to release the game to both beta testers and those with enough cash to buy themselves a ticket. Digimon were still seen as nothing more than computer programs and simulations, it was seen as nothing more than a game. They had not realized that they had actually tapped into a dimension that was parallel to Earth's communication network.
The promotion was huge as it spread across every media network and was advertised as the beginning of a new gaming century. Now gamers could enter and interact with a virtual world. The fans of the series could exploit their dreams with a closer than ever bond by registering as a Tamer and picking their 3 Digimon Partners. Raffles, lotteries and so many other events were held to bring in the first lucky few that would gain access to this Digital World, to this new frontier of online gaming. Surveys and interviews were held across the world in order to choose beta testers from all around from experienced gamers to experienced programmers or to just those whom got lucky in a raffle or lottery. Of course at the same time tickets were sold to those whom had the coin.
The board of directors continued to push the release date in which CrossWire Server would open its doors despite the warnings of the programmers. They sought out what was best for the company which was money and publicity, however their ignorance toward the Digital World would prove to be a catastrophic downfall...
