Lani was stalking the BBS as she sat in the waiting room. The game hadn’t been up for long and already the smart players were already making a move on battling and exploring the digital landscape this game held. She remembered it was just a game, she was good at that. Remembering that games were games was what had separated her from her brothers – they took games too seriously and hated it when they lost. They even threw tantrums. And even though Lani wasn’t completely immune to the same reactions, she could calm herself down a lot better.
After all, what were pixels really worth?
The suddenly raised voices of her two Digimon brought her back to the here and now. It was the same old story – Monteith had either said or done something to upset about Flora and now she was having a go at him. The Digimon had more personality than Lani had been expecting. Eventually she would start to wonder if they really were just made of pixels. But for now, they were just pixels and this was just a game.
Something pinged and Lani looked up. Apparently blond boy was here. “Come on Terry,” she said to her quiet Digimon as she stood up. “Let’s see what you Digimon are made of.”
Terry only hummed something short as a reply. He wasn’t very talkative on a good day, and Lani wondered if he was a little bit nervous about the battle. Before heading out, she turned to her other two Digimon and said, “Youse behave yourselves, okay? Stop causing a ruckus.”
“I didn't start it.” Flora said indignantly.
“Then finish it.” Lani rolled her eyes. “I’ll call if I need youse.”
She stepped out of the waiting room and soon found herself standing on the stadium floor. She could spot the blond boy on the other side and called out to him, “You ready for this, blondie?!” Terry shuffled somewhat uncomfortably by her feet as he eyed up the Lopmon on the other side. It was all too clear now why Lani had persistently insisted that he fight, rather than the more eager Flora or Monteith.
Lani looked down at her Terriermon and nudged him lightly with her foot to get her attention. When he looked up she said, “Cheer up Terry, this is gonna be fun. Now go.”
“I doubt it,” Terry muttered as he walked closer towards the stadium floor, in a low voice, of course, so that Lani wouldn’t hear. He wasn’t exactly the bravest Digimon around and the fight was nothing that he was looking forward to.

| The coliseum, a battling ground for the many Beta Testers. It was a monolith of a building, with space enough to house countless people and Digimon alike. The Locomon's doors opened, a sound alerting all nearby to its arrival, and Theo stepped out, his hands in his jacket pockets. Walking along at both sides of Theo were Vincent and Oswald. The DemiDevimon was chattering away, whilst Vincent nodded in a sluggish manner, only half-focusing on his companion's words.
Atreyu, meanwhile, had took up position in the usual spot; sitting on Theo's head. He'd been quiet for most of the trip, considering, probably, how the upcoming battle would begin. For quite a while now, he had been pondering what it would be like to fight another similar in visage to himself, and now here they were, entering into the white abyss to meet with one such Digimon.
He was unsure what to think of the strife-to-be... Fighting a feral Digimon was one thing, but, to fight one such as himself, dedicated to the protection of a human; it was rather disconcerting. However, he had pestered Theo for quite some time about it, and now, he would soon be getting what he asked for.
The group soon entered the coliseum and Vincent instantly sat down, Oswald swooping to settle on the floor a little to the side. Atreyu sub-consciously clenched tighter to Theo's hair, however he chuckled and grabbed him to drop him moments later on the floor. "Nervous now?" he asked, his lips twitching upwards in a small smirk. "I'm perfectly fine," Atreyu responded in the most emotionless voice he could muster. "Mm-hm..." Theo quietly laughed.
He lifted his head as a voice called across to him. "You bet," he replied. "You up for it?" He glanced back down at Atreyu. "Yes, I am not backing out now." He pulled back one leg and raised a clenched fist in a defensive stance, his face still as much a blank mask as ever.
There was the briefest of moments where Atreyu considered his actions, and then he burst into motion. Charging forwards and stopping just as suddenly in the middle of the large room, he drew in a breath. "Blazing Ice!" he cried, launching shots of ice cold air in the Terriermon's direction.
This was certainly going to be an interesting battle, Theo could tell. He leaned back slightly, glancing back over at the other side of the battlefield. | Words: 431

Lani had hardly heard blond boy’s response – she was watching Terry carefully while reciting the instructions she had read. It was odd that in this game the player didn’t have to give their little monster battle commands. They just sort of figured it out themselves, apparently.
“Yeah!” Lani shouted back, a little less enthusiastic than before. But that was due to her mind wondering; she was still very keen to see what battling in this game was like. She looked up at her opponent again and almost laughed at his silly looking pose. What did he think this was? A TV show? Maybe he’d fly off into the air at any minute.
Her attention was quickly brought back to the battle when the brown Terriermon wannabe (no, that sounded too long for a nickname, didn’t it?) fired an attack. Terry had watched the Lopmon carefully while it was considering its attacks, but hadn’t been thinking the same as his opponent. Rather, Terry had still been grumbling in his head about the match but as soon as the Lopmon ran towards the middle of the room – towards him – he was alert again.
In all honesty, Terry had prepared himself for a more physical attack, like a punch or a tackle, and was ready to evade at the last minute, but plans changed. There was no punches or tackles – there were shots of cold air instead. He managed to suffocate a squeak that tried to escape his throat, and, like the squeak, he also failed to escape. The attack hit and he braced himself a bit too late.
He fought off the last of the icy air bullets with his own blazing attack; he fought them off with a Blazing Fire, and continued to shoot out the scorching bullets at his opponent. The attack didn’t last long – at the moment, he didn’t want to copycat what his opponent was doing. It was bad enough that they looked similar.
“Hmm…” Lani was frowning, wondering why her Digimon hadn’t made the attack last longer. This was a battle after all. You were supposed to attack your opponents with as much as you had. It very briefly occurred to her that maybe Terry was playing defensive, but that was dismissed when she reminded herself that out of her three Digimon, Terry was probably the least suited for playing defensive.
When his attack had stopped, Terry immediately lowered his stance, and again watched the Lopmon intently. He knew what he wanted to do. In his mind he started to figure out how to do that, how to form his next plan of attack.
Well, okay, it was more like a plan of evading, but he figured he’d try and fit an attack in there somewhere too.

| What was the point in alerting the enemy to his attack? was one of the few thoughts to enter Atreyu's head as the spheres of ice-cold air were sent flying at his opponent. Being that this was only one of a couple of fights he'd had before, he couldn't really think of an answer to that. Maybe it was for the best to simply remain mute for the future, granting this fight a touch of greater difficulty.
Any further thoughts were blown out of his mind as his foe sent back return shots in the form of spherical flames. He jumped to the side in an effort to dodge them; a couple striking his side and ears in the process. Teetering a moment, he brought an ear up in front of his face to act as a temporary shield, though it was for nothing. He pulled his ear back, looking out at the battlefield warily. As quickly as the fire-balls had been fired, they had gone, leaving Atreyu free of further damage.
Currently, the Terriermon was watching him intently, preparing itself for a retaliation from the Lopmon.
It's almost like one of those cowboy fights, Theo mused. Without the dramatic, silent circling scene.
Atreyu didn't waste much time in preparing for his next strike. Sidling a little to the left, he brought one arm forwards before launching himself into a spin. He built up as much speed as he could before throwing out his ears. The now, mini hurricane raced towards the Terriermon, covering ground at a quick pace.
"Is it me, or is this kind of quietly intense?" Theo called out across the battlefield. "You know I've never really noticed, but, fights can actually be pretty different, depending on where you are. Might just be me though." He shoved his hands into his jacket pockets, distracted once more by the ongoing battle.
Still it struck Theo as strange, as to how he didn't need to order his team in combat. They were perfectly happy creating their own tactics and maneuvres... But, it might just be that Theo had been playing one too many RPGs these past few years.
Oswald watched on with wide eyes as the fight between Atreyu and the opposite team's Terriermon slowly grew more serious. He nudged Vincent once or twice, tittering a little at the thought of what would have happened if the fire-bullets had headed in their direction. "One of them could've landed on your head or something," Oswald added. "You'd get a flamedo then! Get it?" He burst out into a fit of giggles. | Words: 461

Terry was watching. Waiting. It would be hard to disagree that there was some kind of quiet intensity to the battle. Lani kept her eyes on the battle – she had no idea what her Digimon could actually do in battle and wasn’t going to miss it for anything.
The watching and waiting didn’t last long. Before anyone knew it, the opposing Lopmon had launched itself into another attack. It had run, spun and turned into some kind of twister. It was what Terry had been waiting for – he jumped into the air, ears open to catch the air as if they were little (badly designed) parachutes. Unfortunately for him, he hadn’t counted on the attack being a Dash Twister and felt the twister pulling him into its centre. His ‘plan of evading’ hadn’t worked as well as he had hoped.
Honestly, why fight against the flow?
Instinct (or was it programming?) kicked in and the Terriermon clenched his little fists as the twister pulled him in and he let out a shout as he aimed a punch at the twister.
Lani blinked. Damn that had happened pretty fast, all in seconds. “Very intense,” she agreed quietly to herself before looking back up at blond boy. “Quiet and intense is what Terry’s all about,” she yelled playfully, wondering if Terry would hear her or if he was concentrating too much. He didn’t seem to like others talking about him and would usually start listening intently. Except he was in the middle of something right now, of course. “And I wouldn’t know sorry. This is my first fight.”
She wondered what he had meant by that though? Fights being different depending on where you were. Lani took a second to remember that you could fight wild Digimon in, well, the wild. She decided that that must’ve been what he had meant. A grin snuck its way onto her face. This was fun. And now she’d have to go out and see if fighting the wild ones was just as fun.

| There was a vague sense of satisfaction from the Lopmon as his counterpart was sucked into the pull of the twister. However, that was short-lived, as his foe proceeded to deliver a punch in retaliation. They hit their mark and Atreyu lost control of the small hurricane, twisting and collapsing to the floor in the same movement. He huffed quietly to himself and leapt back, using his ears like the small parachutes they could form to create a fair distance between himself and his rival.
Merely a sub-conscious reaction to the physical flash of pain he has just received, Atreyu threw away thoughts of distancing himself from his opponent, and decided to commence the reverse. A second or two had passed by in the time it took for the decision to be made, and in the time after that, Atreyu curled up his left ear and raced back towards the Terriermon. The instant he came within close proximity of his target, he launched his clenched ear at the white and green rabbit.
Vincent was absorbing the unfolding battle and storing anything he considered useful away for a later time. Any conflict that they might end up in later, could be dealt with at a quicker pace if he was to plan ahead. Not like he'd ever really thought of that kind of thing before. Really, he'd just thought it would be best to start planning out ahead now, instead of later. He'd been injured once, and it probably wouldn't be the last, but, hopefully, this kind of battle data might aid him in the future.
Beside him Oswald was hopping up and down on the spot. He'd never really been simply an audience of a fight before, instead blocking everything out to actually participate. And right now, he wished he'd brought some popcorn.
Theo smirked at the Tamer's response. "I bet he's projected his intensity across the battlefield," he called back. "And you say it's your first fight, huh?" Theo continued. "Well, I hope it's an interesting one." He grinned. "It's certainly strikes me as a tad on the strange side, what with them both looking alike." He chuckled a little.
He had actually not really noticed another like the Lopmon whilst picking out his team. And it'd taken him by surprise when he'd heard that the rabbit Digimon was one of two similar kinds. Hadn't it been said they were supposed to be something like twins? He didn't know. He couldn't really remember.
