HISTORY OF SORA ASAHINA
Misfortune always seemed to follow Sora Asahina from the day she was born. Her mother and father were both from families that had large stock in the corporations of Japan and had thus been arranged to marry. Her mother became pregnant early on, but there was a hitch. Ami, as the woman was called, had always been frailer than most and the pregnancy would take its toll on her. Childbirth would be difficult on her for with one child, but nearly impossible with two. And, unfortunately for the Asahina family, she carried twins. The woman was too kind and gentle to go through with anything to abort the children, and so she carried them. On an early Spring morning two children, a boy and a girl, were born with one of the greatest costs of all.
Sora and Rin Asahina were very troublesome children for their much too early widowed father. By no means did either twin mean to be trouble, but the man was far too preoccupied and young to nurture two young children by himself. He found nannies, easy enough, and the children seemed to disappear from his view. As they grew older, the twins didn't mind as much. They knew their father was the only one taking care of them and that they had each other. The two spent a lot of time together growing up and it was only because of much persistence of a nanny they stopped sharing a room.
Because of their behavior the twins grew up similarly. They both had an affinity for arts and sports, albeit Rin preferred art while her brother preferred sports, and their fears were often the same. There was only two differences between them, their gender and some of their personality traits. Where Sora was the more introvert of the pair, Rin didn't mind being helpful and kind to her fellow classmates. She was never a social butterfly and one day that behavior would change, too.
And it changed too quickly.
It happened in an accident. Their father had rushed off for an important meeting in a nearby prefecture. The nanny had let them out to play a game of soccer. The car didn't see the little boy coming to get the ball before it hit. Sora had died on impact, and Rin was the only one of the twins left. And, yet, she'd died that day. A misprint of the arbitrary would change her life forever. "Rin Asahina, age eight, died in a fatal car accident," the papers read and her father latched onto it for the truth.
Rin's father had always blamed her for her mother's death. He only ever wanted one child, a male. And while he treated her with a coolness, he never cared for the girl as much as the boy. Sora's death-- the real Sora's-- only drove that point home. The loss of most of his family in the few short years drove the man near madness, he became angry, drunk, and resentful. He legally changed her name to Sora and hired a private doctor to deal with all of her physical examinations. He'd told her once that she was not Rin, she was Sora, and that had been it. Since then Sora has played the expectant role of the brother she lost. She didn't mind as much as she should have, however, because she felt it was the real Sora who should have still been alive, anyway.
The father and daughter moved to Tokyo shortly after "Rin's" death because of business relations. It was a fresh start and it meant that Sora had to play her role properly. She was good at pretending to be her brother because they were always alike. Still, the girl was fearful of her position and didn't talk much to others-- which gave her a cold atmosphere. She was good at sports and wonderful at art, so many of the students began to warm up to her and try to be her friend. In some ways Sora didn't mind as she'd always loved people, but the idea that Sora wouldn't act like that or that they'd find her out made the girl keep them at a distance.
Her secret was only skirted by with various means. She never took school physicals as it was arranged by her father. She went to a private, high class school, so swimming lessons were something of an option in the class roster. On the days she would have been made to she fell mysteriously ill. That has been how her life has been for the past several years.
Sora is still uncertain about her behavior as a male. She's forced herself to be rougher, a little more vulgar, but it doesn't feel right. Sora's known the entire time that she is a girl, it's not something she's forgotten. Whiles he's gone to great extents to hide her gender in fear of her father and the longing for her brother, Sora wishes she could be free to be who she is. That's why CrossWire attracted her.
She and Rin/Sora had never been video game people, but the idea of going to play a game away from the situation she was in is what drew her. She entered contest after contest. Sora tried each time something new came out, even going as far as to dip into the funds her father gave her. It was a mixture of both of these things that helped her become a Beta Tester in CrossWire. Her father disapproved, but when Sora went off it wasn't with permission. She was close to the location and so the day she was called was the day she left home. Sora was on a mission to find herself and the freedom she sought, it didn't matter that it was only in a game where it started. And, in a lot of ways, it would be a way to prove herself to her father.
SORA ASAHINA HOME SERVER
« 1986 » Sora's home is traditional in Japanese style, reminiscent of her home in Kamisu. There's a bamboo door that would lead out welcoming the visitor to an open space living room with a kotatsu in the middle. The ways around the house are through more bamboo doors. The one to the right of the room leads to a kitchen area, whereas the left leads to a hallway that leads to two rooms One for her Digimon and the other for her.
