HISTORY OF YOUR ANTOINE STRIVELYN
Ever since he was young, Antoine remembers growing up in a large family. His father was often away for work (he worked in the Navy and was often deployed on a ship), leaving him with only females to influence him. His mother stayed home, taking care of him and his three sisters, later returning to study at a university when her children were old enough to take care of themselves. Antoine’s relationship with his sisters was normal for any brother--he got along with them, despite their constant feuds and picking on one another. Because of his father's occupation, his family often moved around, only staying in one country for two years at the most. The boy soon tired of saying goodbye to friends, and the heartache that came with it, deciding then it was better to have no friends at all than to part with them.
Having given up on human friends, Antoine turned to virtual ones--he immersed himself in fantasy, in books and movies and video games. They offered an escape for the boy, a door to a better reality. His favorites were those dealing in befriending and raising creatures--such as pet-raising and zoo-building games. These monsters became the friends he could never make in person. As the boy went through several games and phases, he gravitated to Digimon. Digital Monsters--creatures that lived inside a computer world. This fact made Digimon seem possible, almost real to him, and he lived under the delusion that these Digimon were real creatures. He would talk to his friends, confide in them, imagining that they spoke back to him. But they never did.
When hearing about the beta-testing for the newly-developed CrossWire Server, Antoine became ecstatic. This was his chance to finally be able to meet his friends in person, to be able to talk to his Digimon and have them talk back. Because his parents disapproved of his excessive time spent on video games, and because he had no funds of his own, the boy would be unable to pay his way in. His limited experience and lacking skills professional or online gaming ruled out interviews, which left Antoine to the free raffles and lotteries. He applied several times on several occasions, but as the weeks passed he received no replies. Just as he was beginning to despair in the thought of never traveling to the Digital World, Antoine received an email from the company behind CrossWire Server. He had been one of the lucky winners who would be gifted the privilege of being one of the first Beta-Testers. With joy and excitement in his heart, Antoine packed a backpack full of clothing and personal belongings and prepared to leave his house. Fortunately for him, his father happened to be stationed in Japan, so he only needed to take a train to the Akihabara district. He had told his parents a friend wanted someone to stay over for a few weeks while their parents were away on a trip, hopefully preventing any fears or suspicions they might have had when they discovered he was missing. They asked no questions, glad that Antoine actually had any friends to spend time with. With a day left before the opening of the CrossWire Server, Antoine took a bullet train to Akihabara and camped outside the Headquarters for the night. He couldn’t sleep--his partners were waiting for him.
ANTOINE STRIVELYN’S HOME SERVER
« 0552» Antoine’s Home Server takes the form of a simple cabin situated on a miniature island, with the cabin taking up a good part of it. The wooden structure is quite spacious on the inside, due to the lack of decoration and personal belongs. A medium-sized bed is found in the far corner of the room, with big white pillows and soft blue sheets. Next to it is a small nightstand with an antique clock and lamp upon it. Against the wall to the left (or right, if you are sitting on the bed) is a mahogany desk with three drawers along its right side. Its antiquity is contrasted by the electronic laptop which sits on top it and the modern swivel chair. A round, black rug lays in the middle of the room, seemingly out of place, and a medium-sized painting of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks hangs on the wall. The rest of the island itself is about the size of small backyard, with a few trees scattered across a white beach.
