Four years ago Digimon Sovereign was launched using an advanced virtual reality engine developed by the CrossWire company. Since then the game has blossomed and has spread all across the world. A city and community was even built around CrossWire's headquarters on an island as the game started to change lives. Teams gained sponsors and played competitively - tournaments and competitions were broadcasted globally and had more viewers than most Olympic sports. Players whom were good enough became worldwide celebrities. The Digimon MMO was revolutionary in both technology and the video game experience as people submerge themselves into the Digital World - (read more)
In the year 2053 CrossWire, a software company, made a huge breakthrough in the world of virtual reality entertainment and gaming. As a result they produced an MMO in which the player could completely submerge themselves into the environment of the game. This game was Digimon Sovereign, the newest installment to the Digital Monster franchise. CrossWire was able to use their virtual reality technology to tap into the immense amount of data already created within the Digital World and thus it was used as a base for their massive multiplayer online game.
Over the past four years Digimon Sovereign has developed into the world's most played and viewed game due to the virtual Digital World being a whole new realm to visit and explore. The game is even played competitively around the world like some of the most popular sports and teams have gained sponsors and professional players are both valued and viewed as all-stars whom live a life of fame and wealth. For many it has become a lifestyle, for others it's a distraction from the trivial antics and bothersome responsibilities of the real world.
CrossWire, which had already been a large and developing company, set up their establishment on an island in which Digimon Sovereign's main sever was hosted. An entire community was built on this island - housing, restaurants, and a school. It also became a major tourist attraction area with CrossWire tours, a Digimon themed park and entertainment district, various hotels and resorts on the beachfronts all around the island. It is a very modern, yet expensive place to live.
Due to this most inhabitants of the island and players of the game were CrossWire employees and family members of the employees - this included those working and living in the city established on the island. Wealthy families also made an appearance, but there were also many whom were sponsored to be there in order to play to represent a company and/or team - advertising was huge after all since the game was big world wide and tournaments would broadcasted like the Olympics. Each year there were also hundreds of contests and raffles that would earn people a week or two at a resort on the island with access to their very on HexaPod.
HexaPods were devices used by players with a full membership and account to Digimon Soverign. They could climb into the pod and completely submerge themselves into the game. These HexaPods are only on CrossWire Island and allow full access to the gaming environment and experience of exploring and taking part of the Digital World. Those off the island and around the world could only access a portion of the games features with digital head gear and hand attachments, but the virtual reality was very limiting on such devices and only the HexaPods hosted on the island could give the full sensation and illusion of being submerged as a character in the Digital World.
